
Fondazione Telethon ETS (FT) announces the opening of Round I of the Multiround Call for research projects 2025 – 2027 that will be in partnership with Fondazione Regionale per la Ricerca Biomedica of Regione Lombardia.
FRRB is a non-for-profit organization governed by public law, established in October 2011 by Regione Lombardia to promote and support scientific research in Life Sciences in Lombardy Region. FRRB represents one of the main strategic platforms for boosting progress, research, development, and innovation within the health sector among the regional academic and industrial life science players. FRRB aims to distribute local and European resources to innovative basic and translational research projects, generating a positive impact on the local healthcare eco-system and citizens.
The Multiround Call will run from 2025 to 2027, with yearly calls opening in January/February and the peer review process closing in November. The outcome of each round and final feedback are expected at the end of each year.
- For the present Call, Applications for one- or two-center proposals are admitted. Fondazione Telethon will fund Applicants working either in public or private Italian non-profit research Institutions. FRRB will fund only applicants (Lead and partner) exclusively from the Lombardy Region.
- The evaluation process is based on two steps, with a triage phase consisting of the evaluation of a Letter of Intent (LOI) and of a Full Application for those proposals that successfully pass the first step.
- Please note that different eligibility criteria (see below) will apply based on the selected funding agency.
- During the Full proposal submission, applicants will be required to choose the funding agency to apply with.
- However, please consider that, according to the available funds, applications might be assigned to a different funding agency than the chosen one to maximize the number of projects to be funded.

Topic of the call
The present call aims at funding basic and pre-clinical research projects focused on rare genetic diseases. Research projects can be submitted into one of the following tracks:
· Track BASIC RESEARCH
focused on the identification of disease mechanism/s and/or identification and validation of disease target/s.
· Track PRECLINICAL PROOF OF CONCEPT
focused on the identification and validation of therapeutic candidate/s once the disease target has been validated and/or the therapeutic strategy identified.
Applicants can apply to one track per round, with one research project either as Lead Applicant or Partner. Each round and track will have a dedicated peer review process and competition. Please see the “eligibility criteria” section for further information.
