DATA MINING FOR ANALYSIS OF DNA MICROARRAYS

The applications of the new high-throughput technique of DNA microarrays, i.e. expression profiles and array CGH, enable the generation of very large amounts of genetic data regarding human hereditary diseases. The effective and complete comprehension of these massive amounts of data requires the use of suitable IT methods to extract data and interpret their meaning. In addition, data management is a very demanding task. To this objective specific databases, which enable data transfer in standard format, from and to analysis software, have become absolutely essential. However, although many applications have been recently developed, there are still large unexplored spaces. Our service provides the scientist, which use DNA microarray, with the necessary support for the full utilization of experiments content. In addition, the scientist can use our service to store data on digital support and for publication by WWW. We have also developed a bioinformatic procedure to allow the automatic translation of microarray data to cell function, in order to gain a deep insight into molecular mechanisms of hereditary diseases. Finally, a novel “in silico” procedure extends the altered expression patterns onto the human genome map. Thus, the discovery of new genes implicated in human hereditary diseases may be accelerated.
